Dr. Jessica Hernandez was born and raised in Maryland, became a student-athlete at Liberty University where she graduated cum laude with her Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, then received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Azusa Pacific University where she fell in love with Los Angeles.
Back in high school, she ran cross country and track and was named the Academic Senior Female Athlete of the Year, helped her team win many conference and regional championships, and individually placed 3rd in the 2-mile race at the Maryland state meet. She went on to compete at the highest college level, Division I, running 4 years on the Cross Country and Track teams. Along with her passion for running came numerous injuries that debilitated her and could have prevented her from running in college. But physical therapy restored her ability to do what she loved! She even earned an athletic scholarship after demonstrating perseverance and success on her team despite battling iron-deficiency anemia. This fueled and inspired her to eventually help others who may also be at a crossroads in their lives to discover hope, and ultimately, success, through physical therapy and rehabilitation.
During her doctoral studies, Dr. Hernandez ambitiously co-enrolled and attained her National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT) certification, and she also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Hernandez went on to complete advanced training in a year-long Orthopedic Residency Program, and then was accepted into and completed the prestigious year-long Sports Fellowship Program (FAAOMPT) through Kaiser Permanente: Woodland Hills. During these programs, she completed countless continuing education courses, received invaluable 1-on-1 mentorship in advanced orthopedic & sports clinical care, while also working alongside top surgeons and treating patients at the Cedar-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute. During this training she completed the 6-month Advanced Certificate Program Advanced Functional Biomechanics of the Lower Quarter: Integration of Technology into Practice for high-tech movement analysis, movement re-education, and return-to-sport with Dr. Chris Powers, Professor of Biokinesiology & Physical Therapy, and Co-Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Lab at USC. She is certified in Personalized Blood Flow Restriction (PBFR) through Owens Recovery Science and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and its Sports and Orthopedics sections. Utilizing her highly trained skill-set and experience, Dr. Hernandez has great success providing patients of all ages the most effective, individualized & cutting edge care to ease their pain and achieve (and even exceed!) their specific goals.
In addition to her love of running, Dr. Hernandez enjoys practicing the Spanish language, spending time with her standard Poodle “Twix”, and loves any and all outdoor activities and adventures.
